According to projections, OTT platforms make earn up to Rs 4,000 crore by 2025. Television, radio, newspapers, magazine, movies, etc have been issued guidelines by the government. The guideline includes regulations such as certification for movies, censorship of sensitive content, etc. OTT platforms do not have to follow these rules. There are free to broadcast any form of content online. These companies are free to decide the stories be it related to politics, vulgar content, etc. They do not have to mention any form of certification for the videos. They are free to decide their subscription fees as well. They do not have to follow government guidelines. Many complained that OTT platforms must be regulated because their vulgar content can influence the youth. Now President Ram Nath Kovind signed an order amending the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961. As per this, all OTT platforms will now be regulated by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. OTT platforms will not be happy with following the government's guidelines. Because many online platforms create movies, web series, etc on politics and other sensitive topics. They may not be happy as they will have to be censored by the government.
